It is important to note that B S 1192 Part 3 has been superceded by three European Directives, but these do not appear to include any of the details contained within this module.

These European Directives are:

  • B S E N I S O 3766 1999. This covers construction drawings for concrete reinforcement.
  • B S E N I S O 7518 1999. This covers construction drawings for demolition and rebuilding.
  • B S E N I S O 11091 1999. This covers construction drawings for landscape drawing practice.
When producing two-dimensional plans, elevations and sections a designer needs to convey clear information to ensure that the correct materials, layouts, dimensions and
project requirements are utilised in the finished product. It may be essential for example, that a door opens into a specific room hinged on a particular side. The use of a graphical symbol to show this makes life easy for both the designer and any other person examining or interpreting the drawings.
